California Reforestation Strategy Data

California’s Reforestation Strategy is an all-lands approach to restoring forests that have experienced high-severity fire and may be limited in their natural recovery. The strategy presents the extent of wildfire-driven reforestation needs from 2000 to 2024; the spatial reforestation needs data are available for download here.

Wildfire-driven Reforestation Needs in California (2000 - 2024)

Description: Spatial estimates of reforestation needs as a result of high-severity wildfire from 2000 to 2024. These estimates were produced as part of the California Reforestation Strategy: An All-Lands Approach to Restoring Forests After Severe Wildfire.

The “reforestation_annual.gpkg” file contains spatial datalayers for each year included in the analysis. Each datalayer contains polygons of reforestation needs from every fire that year that exceeded 1,000 acres.

The “README.docx” file provides metadata for the geopackage.
